Bhubaneswar: As prices of petrol and diesel are already at unprecedented levels in the country and rose for the ninth consecutive day on Monday, Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has tightened up its belt to hold statewide vehement protest against the fuel price hike as the general public and rates of essential commodities have been hit hard.

Briefing the press at the party headquarter here, senior BJD leader and Nayagarh MLA Arun Sahu said, members of Biju Mahila Janata Dal, Biju Yuva Janata Dal and Biju Chhatra Janata Dal will stage protests at petrol pumps across the state during the three days from 10 AM to 12 noon.The former Law Minister also said the party activists will create awareness among fuel consumers regarding the record price hike.

Senior BJD Leader and general secretary Sanjay Kumar Dasburma said, “Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has now surrendered before the general public confessing that they (Centre) are unable to control the oil prices.”“The fuel price hike will be given a fitting reply by BJD and its frontal wings BJD Mahila Morcha, Biju Juba Janata and Biju Chhatra Janata,”

There has been a surge in fuel prices since last two weeks,petrol price reached Rs 81 per litre in backward districts like Nabarangpur and Koraput in Odisha.
