Cuttack: Taking note of the intensifying lawyers-cops spat in the city, Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh on Thursday suspended two Constables and a Havildar in connection with the attack on a lawyer by Chauliaganj police personnel near Nua Bazaar Bridge on Tuesday morning.
DCP Singh informed the media that Constables Dilip Kumar Samal and Uday Kumar Bhuyan and Havildar Prasanna Kumar Behera have been placed under suspension for police excesses.
“In order to ensure free, fair and impartial enquiry into the matter, one Addl. DCP namely, Gupta Mahakud, OPS(I) has been entrusted with the enquiry. After due enquiry, he has submitted the preliminary enquiry report and basing on the preliminary enquiry report, the suspension has been slapped.”
On the other hand, the Orissa High Court Bar Association today resorted to a cease-work agitation today protesting the ‘police atrocities’.
Yesterday, irate lawyers had gheraoed the Chauliaganj Police Station demanding stringent actions against the erring police personnel for their ‘excesses’. The lawyers even resorted to dharna yesterday when a parked police van was found torched near the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) office near Orissa High Court.
