Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today ordered a Crime Branch probe into the ongoing tussle between police and lawyers after a lawyer was attacked by police personnel on August 28.

The High Court, after hearing two petitions filed by Orissa High Court Bar Association and Nationalist Lawyers’ Association, directed the Crime Branch(CB) to conduct a thorough probe into the incident and posted the next hearing of the case to Monday.

A DSP-rank officer will investigate the incident,Sources added.The two bodies demanded a judicial probe by a sitting HC judge and arrest of the errant police officials and compensation for the injured lawyer.

Earlier on August 30, two days after the lawyer was attacked by cops near Nua Bazaar bridge here, Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh suspended Constables BK Samal and UK Bhuyan and Havildar PK Behera for the police excesses.

The agitating lawyers continue to stage cease-work stir and will take decision on their next course of action on Wednesday.
